St. Johns River Report By Capt. Steve Niemoeller
July and August has been busy this year with all the freshwater trips and saltwater trips I have had and I do want to Thank all my customers and say I Appreciate your business.
Bass Fishing on the river has been great with Wild Shiners as well as Artificial lures like the SteelShad Lure fished on the ledges and points and soft plastic lures (stick baits ,small worms, and Creature baits) flipped through the mats and along the edges of the weed beds has also been good producers of Largemouth Bass .The Stripers (Hybrid Bass AKA as wipers ) in some parts of the country have also been a fun way to spend a day on the river as they have a hard pull on the end of your line and will not give up even when you get them to the boat they still want to run.
We have been catching them in the main river channel on the SteelShad Lure they will be busting baitfish so when you find them just fish the school and when they stop just drop your SteelShad to the bottom and work it along the bottom and they will pick it up and the fight is on .
You will also catch Specks and small skipjacks along with a nice flounder now and then while fishing in the deeper water on the bottom .I also fish in the Salt water and have had good success catching Flounder , Spanish Mackerel, Redfish and trout in Ponce inlet and the Mosquito lagoon.
I do want to Thank all the young participants of the casting contest that SteelShad lures sponsored along with WNZF The Southern Sportsman radiowww.wnzf.com held at Flagler beach 4Th of July there were rods and reels that were supplied By OKUMA Rods and Reels and also plaques given to the Three categories of winners. It was a Great time .
