St Johns River Fishing Report – May Forecast
CFLfishing.com Fresh and Salt water Charters – 386-846-2861
Fishing season this year has been one of the best I have seen for the last few years ! Might be because of the warm weather we had but whatever caused it I am glad of great catches I have been having with
my customers.
Bass have started moving out on the ledges in the more summer time patterns where Carolina rigged wild shiners or freelined wild shiners have been doing the job as well as fishing them under a cork close to pads along the main river has been working if you are not comfortable with the corkless methods as some folks aren’t , the stripers can also be caught this way but my favorite and the way sales have been lately other anglers find it to work as well is by using the SteelShad Blade bait , it is a blade type bait made from Stainless steel and has a piece of lead molded to the under belly it comes with two VMC treble hooks and when fished in a yo-yo type manner it will attract Bass, Stripers , Crappie and a occasional
Bream it has a tight wobble with lots of vibration it has caught a lot of fish in the fresh and salt water lately.
Bream should be on the beds by the time this magazine hits the shelves they are in the early stages now and a few have already been on over the past couple weeks they have been good size Copperhead bream and Shellcracker being caught on worms and crickets I always take along both in case they prefer one over the other on that day and fish them under a cork( well I call it a cork I now use a float called adjust –a- bubble ) made by rainbow plastics company they can tighten down with a twist on your line without hurting the line or used as a slip bobber with a bobber stop .
For those of you that like or want to learn Fly fishing I also guide for Bream with Fly fishing equipment and will also supply the equipment if you would like to go on a trip to see if that is a method you wish to learn it is very effective way to fish and a lot of fun .
